What Will be the Best?: Lumion Vs Keyshot

Lumion and KeyShot are both rendering software. So you can use both of these for your rendering process at any time. The output of the software is very good for both but considering the major usage, there is a huge difference. Comparing all facts there is no doubt Keyshot is very good for objects and product rendering and Lumion is very good for architectural renderings. The considered factors are below.
- Price of the software
- System Requirments
- Supported file types
- Supported material types
- Interface
- User-friendliness
- Output quality
After you create a 3D model using 3D Modeling Software you need to do the Rendering. So it is a great thing to know about renderings very well. After you refer to this guide you can realize the facts between Lumion and KeyShot.

Price comparison
As a 3D renderer, you can find a lot of software online but all are not free. Some are paid. The quality is different from each other. Software developing companies spend time and their money on developing that. So they will not give it free to us. But some open source is available. Considering the rendering the fact is the same. Both Lumion and key shot are paid.
Those are premium quality and with many options. So it is fair to pay them. Here mainly we use Lumion for architectural renderings and Keyshot for small-scale renderings. The price of the software are below
Lumion Pro – 3588$
Lumion – 1794$
- Keyshot HD – 995$
- Keyshot Pro – 1995$
- Keyshot 9 Pro floating – 2995$
- Keyshot 9 Enterprise – 3995$
System Requirements
For the renderings, you need high system requirements. Because this is a GPU-based process. Therefore you need a high graphics Processing Unit. There are two types of renderings one is GPU and another one is CPU so here you can use GPU for high-quality renderings. For the rending process, you will need high RAM and GPU. For the best output, you can use high-quality hardware. as well as live rendering can be done easily if you have more powerful GPU.
Requirements | KeyShot | Lumion |
Operating System | Intel or AMD 64 bit processor with SSE4.1 or higher | AMD Ryzen 5 1500X, Intel Core i7-3770K or better 64-bit |
Memory (RAM) | 4 GB of RAM is required. | 16 GB or more |
Hard Disk Space | Minimum 2 GB | Minimum 40 GB |
GPU | 8 GB memory | 4GB Graphics card scoring a G3DMark of 7,000 or higher |
Supported File Types
Both are rendering software. So you need to import the file types to the software. There are many file types that we can output from the 3D modeling software. But will it match to the renderings? So better know, what is the real match for the rendering files types. So it is really easy for your rendering process.
Supported file types for the Lumion
- .DAE (Collada)
- .SKP (SketchUp)
- .FBX
- .DWG
- .DXF
- .3DS
- .OBJ
- .MAX (Requires a 3ds Max installation)
Supported file types for the Keyshot
3ds Max (.3ds) ALIAS 2019 and prior (.wire) AutoCAD (.dwg, .dxf) CATIA v5-6 (.cgr, .catpart, .catproduct, .catdrawing) Cinema 4D R20 and prior (.c4d) Creo 5.0 and prior (.prt, .asm) Creo View (.pvz, .pvs, .edz, .ed, .c3di, .ol) Inventor 2019 and prior (.ipt, .iam) Maya 2018 and prior (.ma, .mb) [2] NX 12 and prior (.prt) Onshape [1] Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2-5 (.prt, .asm) Revit 2019 and prior (.rvt) STL (.stl) ZPR (.zpr) |
Rhinoceros 6 and prior (.3dm) SketchUp 2018 and prior (.skp) Solid Edge 2019 and prior (.par, .asm, .psm) SOLIDWORKS 2019 and prior (.prt, .sldprt, .asm, .sldasm) Acis (.sat) Alembic (.abc) [3] 3DXML (.3dxml) Collada (.dae) FBX (.fbx) [3] IGES (.igs, .iges) JT (.jt) OBJ (.obj) Parasolid (.x_t) STEP (.stp, .step) |
Supported Material
This is all about the material library. You can see the huge library is Lumion and also Keyshot too. So what is the best? As I think Lumion is with many material and we can adjust it any way that we need. But in KeyShot we are not let to change the material options. We have to use the quality that they are already given.

Interface
Lumion interface has a wider interface and KeyShot do not have that. And also both are not yet stressed interface. In the KeyShot interface, there is huge details. and also considering the Lumion it is not.
Keyshotis suitable for small parts renderings and Lumion is good for large-scale renderings. So we need to see much detail of the workplace. Lumion has that.
User Friendliness
Lumon is very good for handling. We can handle the movement camera using keypad and mouse clicks. It is great and that is the best handling that I have experienced ever. But in the KeyShot it is different. You always need to click the top central buttons to move camera movements. Overall Lumion has the best camera handling process.
Another thing we should discuss here. It is about the 3D library. There is an amazing library for the Lumion and Keyshot does not have that. It is with few library and cloud is also same. You had better check these by using this.

Out put
Bith software provides outstanding output. Both can produce videos as well as images too. But considering frame size or image size Keyshot is better. We cant custom change the frame size and KeyShot offer that.
But the output is amazing. Both need better knowledge about lighting, shadows, glossiness, reflections, and many more. Considering rendering time depends on the GPU. For the best output, you need a good GPU
Conclusion
Considering both rendering software you can see there are both pros and cons. So Lumion Vs KeyShot has different options. Finally, we can have a decision. KeyShot is very good for object and product rendering and Lumion is very good for architectural rendering including interior and exterior.
